Clip: Bagnold's story, 04'38"

GREAT EXPLORATIONS

BBC News has been given exclusive access to a priceless archive of footage taken by young adventurers exploring parts of the world that were completely new to western eyes.

One of the stories, shown left, is of the 1932 expedition by

Ralph Bagnold and his fellow adventurers to drive across the Libyan desert in motorcars, mapping the terrain. His research into how sand is moved by wind has had surprising use with scientists today.
